Relevance of Paulo Freire's Educational Philosophy in Indian Educational System

Fr. Susai Raja
ABSTRACT
This conceptual study examines the relevance of Paulo Freire's educational philosophy in the context of the Indian educational system. Freire’s ideas on critical pedagogy, learner-centered education, and the role of dialogue in teaching-learning processes are analyzed in relation to contemporary educational practices in India. The study highlights how Freire’s principles can empower students, promote critical thinking, and foster social justice within classrooms. It also explores the challenges of implementing his philosophy in India, including large class sizes, traditional teaching methods, and socio-cultural constraints. The paper argues that integrating Freirean pedagogy into teacher education programs and classroom practices can enhance student engagement, learning outcomes, and democratic participation in education.
