Coping with Adolescent Issues: An Investigation of Youth Problems among Higher Secondary Students

Dr. Annapriya, J.
ABSTRACT
Adolescence is a pivotal developmental phase characterized by significant physical, emotional, and social transformations. This study explores the predominant challenges faced by higher secondary students, focusing on the coping strategies they utilize to manage these issues. Using a survey method, the research examines problem areas related to family, school, social, and personal difficulties, along with emotional sensitivity. Background variables such as gender, region, medium of instruction, stream of study, family type, and type of school were analysed. A random sampling technique was used to select 300 higher secondary students from Chennai. Statistical tools including mean, standard deviation, t-test, chi-square, and correlation analysis were applied. The findings highlight the importance of support systems such as family, teachers, and counsellors in strengthening coping mechanisms and student resilience.
