ABSTRACT
The research paper deals with the influence of the independent variable of gaming addiction upon the dependent variable academic achievement among the high school students. The influence of subgroup variables such as gender, locality of residence and type of family on gaming addiction and academic achievement among high school students was also investigated. The sample included high school students from Government, Government-aided and Corporation schools located in and around Chennai district. The standardized tool, Game Addiction Scale developed by Jeroen Lemmens, Patti M. Valkenburg and Jochen Peter (2009), was used to study gaming addiction among high school students. The findings revealed that gender, locality of residence, and type of family did not have a significant influence on gaming addiction, whereas type of school management had a significant influence on gaming addiction.
