"The main goal of Education is to create men and women who are capable of doing new things,
not repeating what other generations have done".
Jean Piaget
Education is the cornerstone for the building of any nation. Twenty first century challenges have called for new paradigms in all spheres of education. Teacher Education in particular, continues to play a pivotal role in ensuring national survival and growth with the RTE in force. Significant changes are needed to prepare a new generation of teachers equipped with knowledge, skills and values to help culturally different and disadvantaged students to learn, to reduce conflicts peacefully, to respect each other’s dignity and become socially responsible citizens. Teachers are found to be at different levels of personal, professional and psychological development. Our mission to produce competent, compassionate and committed teachers is the need of the hour. Hence, challenging teacher education programs should support them in cultivating their teaching and identities.
This volume contains reflective and research articles of teacher educators and research scholars on various trend based themes in Teacher Education. Dr. K. S. Ramakrishnan and Mrs. S. I Vanitha in their study on ''Attitude of Student Teachers towards Blended learning" assert that blended learning is an innovative strategy that can be strongly recommended in curriculum transaction. Mrs. Sujatha Sasikumar attempted to find out the level of organizational commitment of Teacher Educators and implies that fostering commitment among teachers will have important implications for educational institutions. Dr. Chelvi. S and Ponmalini. T emphasise in their study on the need to foster professional commitment among teachers.
Innovative programmes are to be provided to the student teachers by teacher educators so that they enhance professional commitment. Mr. Shakira Begum in her study has intended to find out about Mobile learning Awareness among student teachers. She suggests that mobile technology can be used for research, data analysis, synthesis and communication. Dr. Subramaniam and Ms. Rajalakshmi have explored the Emotional Maturity of Higher Secondary School Students in relation to their self-esteem of Madurai districts. The theoretical article on "Heightening the fruition of learning disabled children by means of theatre education" by Dr. P. B. Beulahbel Bency concludes that theatre education can create a wide range of learning opportunities across the whole curriculum in an inclusive setting.
All the articles are directed on enhancing the quality ethos of education mainly through professional development of teachers. I acknowledge the goodwill and services of the contributors in their attempt to boost quality at all levels of education. Wishing all the readers a prolific reading.
